The new University of Mobile Store’s “Mobile Makers” collection features original products with UM connections, like Chaleur Coffee created by Christian and Courtney Hilley. Here is their story.
Owners Courtney and Christian Hilley launched Chaleur Coffee in 2016 with a heart to instill more pride in the city of Mobile, by drawing inspiration from its heritage as a French settlement.
“We’re excited to now offer a focused list of ethically sourced, specialty grade roasted coffees in a market dominated by convenience over quality,” said Christian, a UM alumnus.
Courtney, who also attended UM, added, “We seek to roast each individual coffee offering in a way that enhances its naturally beautiful character and flavor, rather than covering it up through over-roasting or adding artificial flavors.”
The husband-and-wife team has a coffee roastery in Midtown Mobile, Alabama.
“We love the South, and hope in a small way to make it a better place to live,” they said.
